Emergency Response Planning

Occupational Health and Safety legislation Part 7. Section 115 requires employers to establish an emergency response plan for responding to an emergency that may require rescue or evacuation. (Section 8 of the OHS Regulation requires that the plan be in writing and available to workers.). Developing an emergency response plan begins with an understanding of what can happen. Creating a risk assessment and considering the performance objectives that you established or need to establish for your program. Decide how much you want to invest in planning beyond what is required by regulations. The initial concern is protective actions for life safety which includes: evacuation; sheltering; shelter-in-place; and lockdown.
