Claire is a business continuity and emergency management professional. She has worked in many sectors including education and government. She is a Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) and holds a Master of Arts in Disaster and Emergency Management (MADEM) from Royal Roads University (2013), and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Vancouver Island University (2006). Claire has worked in emergency management and business continuity since 2012. She worked as a special projects’ coordinator for the Office of the Deputy Minister – Department of Justice, Government of Yukon from 2012 until 2015 and was the recipient in 2014 of the Premiere’s Award of Excellence for her work on the ground-breaking Sharing Common Ground project.
She was then recruited in 2015 by the Disaster and Emergency Management program at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) to serve as Manager of the academic program and continues to teach as a sessional instructor. Additionally, Claire taught on a 1-year contract for the Occupational Health and Safety program for NAIT in 2016. Claire also led NAIT through their COVID-19 response and recovery as the Director of the Coordinated Response Team and Emergency Coordination Centre.
Claire is passionate about supporting other women in business continuity and emergency management, which is why she volunteers with the Mentor for Women in Business Continuity Management program through the DRII Foundation. Claire currently sits on the CSA Group technical committee for emergency and continuity management where she contributed to the CSAZ1600-17 standard. In addition, she has memberships to IAEM, DRI Canada and BCI.
With over 15 years of experience in risk management, Nicole is a highly knowledgeable and skilled professional. She has strong attention to detail, advanced analytical abilities, and exceptional relationship-building skills. Nicole has a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Great Distinction) in Leadership. She holds the Canadian Risk Management Professional certification focusing on Enterprise Risk Management and an ISO Certified Risk Management Professional designation recognized by the Risk & Insurance Management Society. Her expertise spans diverse sectors, including finance, not-for-profit, public service, and higher education. Throughout her career, Nicole has been crucial in developing and implementing Enterprise Risk Management programs, Risk Appetite statements, and policies for large and intricate organizations. Her influence and guidance have steered senior leadership towards an integrated and strategic approach to enterprise risk management and insurance. Nicole’s work has significantly impacted, providing strategic advice, assistance, and support.
A notable achievement includes leading the development and implementation of the Alberta Provincial Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) Framework, a critical step in risk management. Her strategic counsel and support to the Executive Director of the Recovery Branch and the Chief of Staff of the Wildfire Recovery Task Force had been essential in identifying and managing strategic recovery issues. Nicole has effectively resolved issues at the senior management level, demonstrating her ability to handle complex situations. Additionally, she has provided valuable advice and services to the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension on the Managing Organizational Risk series’ research, development, and delivery.
Amber has over 15+ years of experience in emergency management, business continuity, and risk management. Amber also has 10+ years’ experience working with industrial, municipal, and indigenous fire services, in the developed and the developing world. Amber is an adjunct instructor and content developer for the Fire Services Executive Management Program at Humber College. Amber also serves on the Board of Directors with Firefighters Without Borders (FWB), managing global projects and providing strategic guidance and support to protect life, property, and the environment in communities around the world. Through this work, Amber coordinates with donors & volunteers to provide equipment, professional training, education resources, and support to fire departments and communities in need. Amber also conducts community risk assessments / field assessments and reports on recommendations and planning strategies for each community partner.
Amber has her master’s degree in public safety, post graduate certificates in Emergency Management, Fire Service Executive Management, Environmental Business, Sustainable Business and Environmental Management. Amber also has her Master Business Continuity Professional designation (MBCP), her Incident Command System (ICS) 400 level, her Public Information Officer certification (PIO), and fire certifications in fire and life safety education, fire prevention, fire suppression, and hazardous materials operations.
With nearly a decade of experience in acquiring, cleaning, and analyzing spatial and non-spatial data, Ian is a highly skilled GIS Data Analyst and Machine Learning Specialist. He has worked on various machine learning projects leveraging remote sensing data and GIS variables, including leading a habitat suitability mapping project for endangered species in Canada. His experience with machine learning, risk mapping, and fire data enables him to develop more accurate, smaller-scale fire risk maps around key targets, surpassing the larger scale resolution of publicly available models.
Ian’s proficiency extends to applying deep learning segmentation algorithms on remote sensing data such as Sentinel-1 and 2, Landsat, and commercial data, to identify features such as wetlands, burnt areas, and active fires. His deep knowledge in geospatial technology and AI allows him to deliver insights that go beyond traditional analysis, enhancing decision-making and problem-solving in complex environments.
Ian’s dedication to integrating GIS and machine learning technologies drives his continuous pursuit of innovation in geospatial analysis, making him a valuable asset to any project focused on extracting actionable insights from data.
